Tom Holland is adding another intriguing project to his growing filmography, with Sony Pictures acquiring Penthouse, a new thriller that will see the British actor take on both starring and producing duties.
The project, announced on 19 October, is based on an original idea by Drew Pearce, the screenwriter known for Iron Man 3 and The Fall Guy. Pearce is attached to write the screenplay, with reports also linking him to directing the film. Holland will produce through his company, Billy17, alongside his producing partners.
For now, the finer details remain firmly under wraps. The film's storyline, supporting cast and release date have yet to be announced, leaving audiences with little more than its title and the promise of a new thriller built around one of Hollywood's most recognisable young leading men.
What makes Penthouse particularly interesting is the opportunity it offers Holland to move beyond the familiar worlds of Peter Parker and blockbuster spectacle. While his work in major studio productions has helped establish him as a global star, an original thriller could provide a different kind of showcase for his abilities as a leading actor and producer.
The collaboration also reunites Holland with Sony, the studio behind his hugely successful Spider-Man films. With his production company continuing to develop projects of its own, his involvement behind the camera is becoming an increasingly important part of his career.
There is still plenty we do not know about Penthouse, and it would be premature to speculate about its story or tone. But with Holland attached to lead and Pearce bringing experience across action, comedy and thriller filmmaking, the project is already one worth keeping on the radar.
For now, the title is all we have. The next reveal will hopefully tell us exactly what kind of world Holland is about to step into.
